In order to enhance the professional knowledge of various industries in Macao in relation to Anti-Money Laundering/ Combating the Financing of Terrorism/ Countering Proliferation Financing (AML/CFT/CPF), GIF organized two AML/CFT/CPF seminars for the financial and gaming sectors in early November 2023. Approximately 250 representatives from different financial institutions and gaming operators participated those seminars. In addition, AMCM and GIF jointly held “2023 AML Seminar for Insurance Sector” in virtual format on 14 November 2023, in order to establish a platform for insurance sector representatives to exchange views in AML regime. There were around 80 participants joined the online seminar.
Representatives of GIF discussed the latest trends of money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing (ML/TF/PF), along with relevant case studies in the above seminars. They also introduced international standards related to proliferation financing, requirements and obligations for the implementation of Law No.6/2006 “Asset Freezing Regime” and the potential risks that various industries in Macao might encounter. These seminars aimed to help participants to gain more practical knowledge on AML/CFT/CPF and to enhance the overall compliance work in the prevention and suppression of ML/TF/PF activities in different industries, in particular to improve the ability to detect and report suspicious transactions.
Through organizing different outreach programs, GIF aims to improve the relevant professionals' understanding on implementation of relevant laws and regulations while equipping them with risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies to enhance the capabilities of compliance management and risk prevention. Furthermore, these seminars also served as channels to facilitate communication and collaboration between GIF and different industries for combating financial crimes as well as maintaining the stability and healthy development of the financial market in Macao.
