In order to enable the sectors to further understand the analysis and result of this round of risk assessment, the Financial Intelligence Office (GIF) of the Unitary Police Service being the coordinating agency of the project, cooperated with the supervisory agencies to organize thematic explanatory sessions on the report for different sectors. These sessions provided the opportunity to interact with the sectors, to foster better alignment with the Macao SAR Government’s policies on combating money laundering, financing of terrorism and financing of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, as well as encourage the sectors to take proactive anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism preventive measures with the aim of sustaining financial security jointly with the public sector.
GIF has successively launched its outreach on the risk assessment report to the sectors in early 2024, and has arranged explanatory sessions for the financial sector and gaming sector on 28 February and 19 March respectively, with a total of around 400 participants. The topics of the explanatory sessions mainly covered the risk assessment methodology, the threat of money laundering-related crimes faced by Macao SAR, the risk situation of various sectors, main findings, and sector questionnaire results, etc.
GIF will continue to organize relevant explanatory sessions for other sectors in the 2nd quarter of 2024, in order to encourage the support and participation of various sectors in the prevention and combating of money laundering, financing of terrorism and financing of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, as well as to enhance their awareness of related risks, so as to assist the sectors to strengthen their internal control measures.
